How to use the timesheet calculator

  1. Type the clock in and clock out time for each day, plus any unpaid break in minutes.
  2. Set your hourly rate and the weekly hours after which overtime starts, usually 40.
  3. Read the hours for each day, the weekly total, the regular and overtime split, and the gross pay.

Examples

A standard work week

Mon to Fri, 09:00 to 17:30 with a 30 minute break each day
8 hours per day, 40 hours total, 0 overtime

A week with overtime

45 total hours, overtime after 40, rate 20, multiplier 1.5
40 regular hours, 5 overtime hours, 950 gross pay

Frequently asked questions

How are the hours for each day calculated?

Each day's hours are the time from clock in to clock out minus any unpaid break, rounded to two decimals. A 09:00 to 17:30 shift with a 30 minute break counts as 8 hours.

How does overtime work?

Hours up to the weekly threshold you set, 40 by default, are regular hours. Anything above it is overtime, paid at the multiplier you choose, which defaults to 1.5 times your rate.

Can it handle overnight or graveyard shifts?

Yes. When the clock out time is earlier than the clock in time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight and adds 24 hours, so 22:00 to 06:00 counts as 8 hours.

Overtime rules vary, so are these figures official?

No. Overtime law differs by country, state and employer, and some places use daily rather than weekly thresholds. Treat the result as an estimate and confirm the binding numbers with your payroll or local rules.

Is my timesheet data private?

Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser, so the times, breaks, rate and pay you enter never leave your device and are not sent to any server.
