Frequently asked questions

How is the overall rating calculated?

The tool averages the scores you give each category on a 1 to 5 scale. An average of 4.5 or higher is labeled Exceeds Expectations, 3 to 4.49 is Meets Expectations, and below 3 is Needs Improvement. You can also add your own summary paragraph.

Is my data sent to a server or stored anywhere?

No. The review is generated entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type, including names, ratings, and comments, is uploaded, logged, or saved. Closing the tab clears everything.

Can I add my own rating categories?

Yes. You choose every category, so you can match your company's competency framework, such as technical skills, collaboration, ownership, or leadership. Add or remove rating rows as needed and give each a short comment.

Can I download or print the review?

Yes. Copy the text to your clipboard, download it as a plain .txt file, or use Print to save it as a PDF or send it to a printer. Paste it into your HR system or your own letterhead if you need branded formatting.

What makes a fair, useful performance review?

Use specific examples, balance strengths with clear areas to improve, and set measurable goals for the next period. Keep ratings consistent across the team and tie comments to behavior and results rather than personality.

Is this a substitute for legal or HR advice?

No. This is a template to speed up writing, not legal advice. Performance documentation can have legal weight, so follow your company's policy and have HR review reviews tied to promotions, compensation, or termination.
