A1C to Average Glucose Converter
Convert an A1C result into your estimated average glucose, or turn an average glucose reading back into an A1C. Type either number and the other updates instantly in both mg/dL and mmol/L.
How to convert A1C and average glucose
- Enter your A1C as a percentage, or enter an average glucose value.
- Pick mg/dL or mmol/L for the glucose side if needed.
- Read the matching value and check it against the reference table.

Frequently asked questions
What is estimated average glucose (eAG)?
eAG is your average blood glucose over the past two to three months, expressed in the same units as a finger-stick reading (mg/dL or mmol/L). It is derived from your A1C so the two numbers describe the same control on a familiar scale.
What formula does this converter use?
It uses the ADAG study regression that the American Diabetes Association publishes: eAG in mg/dL equals 28.7 times A1C minus 46.7. To go the other way, A1C equals (mg/dL plus 46.7) divided by 28.7. mmol/L is mg/dL divided by 18.0182.
How do I convert mg/dL to mmol/L?
Divide the mg/dL value by 18.0182, the molar mass factor for glucose. For example 154.2 mg/dL divided by 18.0182 is about 8.6 mmol/L. This tool shows both units side by side automatically.
Is this medical advice?
No. This is an educational estimate only and not medical advice. A1C and average glucose can diverge in pregnancy, anemia, kidney disease and other conditions. Always discuss your results with your doctor before changing anything.
Is my data private?
Yes. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your A1C and glucose values are never uploaded, logged or stored.
Why does eAG differ from my meter average?
eAG is a population estimate from A1C, while your meter average depends on when and how often you test. Red blood cell lifespan and individual biology shift the relationship, so small differences are normal.
