What makes a year a leap year?
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except for century years, which must also be divisible by 400. So 2000 is a leap year but 1900 is not.
Why is 1900 not a leap year but 2000 is?
Both are divisible by 4 and by 100, but only 2000 is divisible by 400. The 400 rule keeps the calendar aligned with the solar year.
